During a visit to Zurich, my wife and I rented a small apartment a short
bus ride from the train station. Upon arrival at the apartment, the landlord
told us he didn’t expect us to stay and would gladly refund our
deposit. Brazilian prostitutes had moved into the neighborhood, he said.
They had “taken over” the four local bars, all of which the
apartment overlooked. The car and foot traffic began about six in the
evening, the music cranked up and continued until about 1 a.m. when the
bars closed.
Well, from 1 a.m. to 6 p.m. it was a lovely little neighborhood, so we
stayed. Each evening we’d have dinner on our balcony, watch the
carnival below, and enjoy the music. 19 Zini Str. is a commemorative
piece taking its energy from the pizzazz of those Swiss/Brazilian evenings.
